HOW TO OBTAIN A CHINESE VISA. As a visitor to China, you will require a tourist visa to participate in your tour. Such visas are routinely granted and can be obtained from the Chinese embassy or from a regional consulate serving your state. Chinese consulates in the U.S. are currently located in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. To determine the consulate serving your state (in the U.S.), see the map at http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/zmzlglj/t84229.htm. For an introduction to the various types of available Chinese visas, see http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/visas/zgqz/. Generally, you will need to apply to a Chinese embassy or consulate. If changing regulations do not permit applying by mail, you may wish to have a visa service deliver the documents on your behalf. Generally, you must submit your passport, a passport photograph, an application form, and a visa fee. If application by mail is permitted, you must also submit a postage paid return envelope. Visas can be obtained on an expedited basis by paying an extra fee, but you can avoid this fee if you deliver your application materials at least one month before your departure date. In the United States, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China is located at: Room 110, 2201 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20007, Tel. 202-338-6688, Fax 202-588-9760.
